ACTIVATED CARBON :-
Activated Carbon is a porous form of Carbon manufactured form Coconut shell, wood or coal. Activation is achieved with steam and it develops myraid of pores with enormous internal surface area.
The porosity creates a remarkable power of ADSORPTION, an indispensable process in industrial separation, purification; decolarization and recovery techniques. The Carbon atoms at the internal surface of Activated Carbon exert an attraction (van der waals force) on the molecules of surroundings liquid and gas and fixes on to its pore walls. This is the basis of mechanism whereby Activated Carbons may be used to remove one or more components from a mixture.

 |
GRANULES :-
In GAS PHASE adsorption, Granular Carbon is almost always used because the pressure drop in the carbon bed is of prime importance and only Granular Carbon will allow sufficient flow with an acceptable pressure drop.
In LIQUID PHASE applications, both Granular and powered carbon can be used.
|
Due to SUPERIOR ADSORPTION, HIGH DENSITY, LOW ATTRITION LOSS, use of Granules has resulted in increased service life, greater filter efficiency, fewer regeneration cycles and economy on Hardware costs.
Activated Carbon Granules made from coconut shell charcoal is used when a single product or grade is being continuously treated in large quantities. Normally Granular Carbon can be regenerated which involves washing or burning off the impurities and restoring the pore structure. |
POWDERED ACTIVATED CARBON :-
Activated Carbons ( Powdered ) are derived from either hard wood charcoal or pine wood charcoal. Naturally therefore these carbons are vegetable origin.
In the activation process the super heated steam reacts with wood charcoal (Water gas reaction) and opens up fresh spaces in an already porous charcoal. New pores are created allowing access to the molecules to be absorbed on the surface of the charcoal. |
 |
Surface area of some grades of our activated carbon can be as high as 800 to 1500 m2/gm. This in short is the process of activation of carbons.
The activated material is pulverized, blended and sieved to get different grades of powdered activated carbons to meet the diverse needs. |
